trenddjakarta.com – Jakarta, June 2025 – In celebration of World Ocean Day, Novotel hotels from the Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bogor area collaborated with Marine Buddies. A youth-led community initiated by WWF Indonesia, to organize a beach clean-up at Pantai Marunda. This activity is part of Novotel Ocean, a global sustainability program launched in partnership with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), underscoring the brand’s long-term commitment to protecting marine ecosystems.
The event brought together hotel teams, Marine Buddies volunteers, and local community members in a shared mission to reduce marine pollution and raise awareness on ocean conservation. Volunteers successfully collected 289 kilograms of waste from the shoreline, helping to restore the coastal environment and inspire public action.
Marine Buddies is a youth community established by WWF Indonesia with a mission to engage young Indonesians in monitoring. And also evaluating the management of marine conservation areas. With a strong focus on environmental education through workshops, campaigns, and public engagement. Marine Buddies empowers the next generation to adopt sustainable lifestyles and contribute actively to marine protection.
“Youth play a critical role in shaping the future of our oceans. Through this collaboration with Novotel, we are proud to show how community-based action can lead to real impact. We hope this clean-up inspires more young people to get involved in marine conservation”. Said Rafif, Chief Coordinator of Marine Buddies.
This initiative aligns with Novotel Ocean, a science-driven global movement supported by WWF and designed to create tangible, long-term environmental impact. Centered on four core pillars, reducing resource footprints, promoting sustainable food, educating communities. And supporting marine research, Novotel Ocean engages all 580 Novotel hotels worldwide in climate and ocean related actions.
“We believe a hotel is more than just a place to stay. It is a platform to raise awareness and inspire positive change. Through Novotel Ocean, we aim to build more meaningful connections between our guests, our team, and the surrounding environment. This beach clean-up is not merely symbolic. It is a tangible expression of our long-term commitment to sustainability”. Said Stephane Bryer, General Manager of Novotel Jakarta Mangga Dua Square.
This activity also reflects Accor’s broader sustainability strategy and its pledge to reach global carbon neutrality by 2050. The Group has already implemented impactful steps including eliminating single-use plastics, promoting sustainable sourcing. And supporting global ocean research through its partnership with WWF.
